Benefits of Pets
They’re the cute cuddly bundle of energy that knocks you over when you first walk through the door, they act aloof until they want feeding, they eat your plants or even hump your leg whilst you try to get on with the ironing, pets bring a number of different things that enrich our lives and even make us feel healthier.
1. They make our hearts more adaptable. Studies have shown that owning a pet is linked with the Heart’s ability to adapt to any circumstance that can affect the body (like increasing heartbeat speed during a stressful moment).
2. They boost self- esteem. People with pets tend to have higher self esteem and lower feelings of loneliness and fear. “pets can serve as important sources of social support, providing many positive psychological and physical benefits for their owners”
3. Protect against allergies. A child’s risk of future allergy is significantly lowered if they are around a pet during infancy, the immune system is strengthened from the pet related allergens and bacteria which work as a sort of vaccine.
4. Stroking a dog increases levels of Oxycotin and serotonin in your body which in turn decreases levels of cortisol, the stress hormone.
Lastly, they brighten up any day by doing the most mundane things – here is a video of a bulldog watching TV to prove it, enjoy!
